If a subwoofer is in the plan, always choose the 12. A high-passed 12 with a subwoofer beats a full-range 15 on every measure that matters in a room.

Choose the EON712 if a subwoofer exists or will

Once a subwoofer is carrying everything below about 100 Hz, the main cabinet no longer needs cone area, and a 12 inch driver is the better midrange device. High-passing the mains also frees their amplifiers from the hardest work they do, so the whole system runs cleaner at the same level. This is why nearly every well-designed church system uses 12 inch mains with subwoofers rather than 15 inch mains alone.

What you give up: on its own, with no subwoofer, a 12 will sound thin under a bass guitar and a kick drum. Be honest about whether the sub is actually coming.

Choose the EON715 if the sub is never going to be bought

Plenty of churches will never approve a subwoofer line, and for them the 15 inch main is the pragmatic answer. It gets bass guitar and kick drum into the room with weight rather than as a click, and for about eleven dollars more per box that is an obvious trade.

It is also the better single-box solution for a fellowship hall, an outdoor service or a youth room where one speaker per side is the entire system. In an outdoor service there is no room to reinforce the low end, so cone area is the only thing that helps.

The honest cost is physical. A 15 inch cabinet is bigger, heavier and more awkward on a stand, and at head height near a congregation that is a real handling consideration. Use stands rated well above the cabinet weight and lock the height properly.

Is a 15 inch speaker always louder than a 12?

Not at the same amplifier power, which is exactly the case here. Both cabinets have the same 1,300 watt amplifier, so maximum output is similar. What the larger cone buys is low frequency extension and sensitivity at the bottom end, not more overall level. The 15 is deeper, not louder.

Will a 15 inch main muddy speech?

Which is better for livestream audio?

Neither, because the stream should not be taking its audio from the room at all. A livestream mix comes from a dedicated bus on the console through an audio interface. If your stream audio depends on which loudspeaker is in the room, that is the problem worth fixing first.

How high should these be mounted?

High enough that the cabinet clears standing heads and aims down into the seating, typically with the horn around seven to eight feet on a stand.
