These proportions describe a complete new audio system. A church replacing only one part should not apply them: a console-only upgrade is a console-only budget. The shares add to 100 percent of audio and deliberately exclude video, projection, lighting, acoustic treatment and labour, each of which is a separate budget line.

Use this to audit a quote rather than to write one. A proposal allocating half the budget to a console and a tenth to loudspeakers is not a system, it is a console with some speakers attached. Equally, a quote with no line for cable, racks and power has simply moved that cost to a surprise invoice later.

The line items that get left out
Installation labour. None of the figures above include it. For an installed system with flown loudspeakers, conduit runs and a commissioned tune, labour commonly runs 25 to 40 percent on top of equipment. A quote that looks cheap against this chart is often a supply-only quote, and the difference appears later.
Acoustic treatment. Budgeted separately and skipped almost universally. In a reverberant sanctuary, treatment does more for intelligibility than any loudspeaker upgrade, and a church that spends its entire fund on equipment in an untreated room has bought a louder version of the problem. Rigging and structural sign-off. Flying loudspeakers requires a structural engineer or certified rigger to specify the attachment points, plus rated hardware. This is not optional and it is not cheap, and it is the item most likely to be missing from a low quote.
The recurring costs. Batteries are the obvious one: a church with ten wireless channels gets through thousands of alkaline cells a year unless it moves to rechargeables. Add replacement earphones, capsules, cables and the eventual loudspeaker reconing, and budget one to three percent of system value annually for maintenance.
Where this chart does not apply
It is audio only. Video, projection, cameras, streaming and lighting are entirely outside these percentages. A church adding a livestream should expect a separate budget of similar scale to its audio one, and projection alone can rival the audio system in a large room.
It assumes a complete new system. A church replacing only its console should not apply the 16 percent figure to work out a total. The proportions describe how to divide a fund across a whole system, not how to price one component.
