How many receivers does the ADA table require?

A 300 seat sanctuary needs 12 receivers and a 1,000 seat sanctuary needs 35, because the formula changes band by band rather than scaling with seats.

Does the ADA actually apply to a church?
Here is the honest answer, which vendors often skip. Religious entities, including places of worship, are exempt from Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act. A congregation that only holds worship services in its own building is not required by Title III to provide an assistive listening system.
That exemption is narrower than it sounds, and three common situations remove it. A church that rents its auditorium to an outside organisation is a landlord for that event, and the exemption does not travel with the building. A church that operates a school, a day care or a similar programme brings those facilities under different rules. And state and local accessibility codes, along with the building code applied when a space is newly built or substantially altered, frequently require assistive listening regardless of the federal exemption.
The practical position for most churches is that the federal question is the least interesting one. The building code applied at the next renovation is more likely to require it, an insurer or a denomination may require it, and a congregation with older members has people in it who currently cannot follow the sermon. Setting up the feed so it is worth listening to
- Feed the transmitter from a dedicated mix, not the main output. A listener with hearing loss wants speech clear and prominent. A matrix or aux output with the voice up and the music slightly down serves them far better than a copy of the room mix.
- Include every microphone the congregation hears. A feed taken before the lectern microphone is patched in means a listener misses the reading. Check that every speaking position reaches the assistive feed.
- Set the level once, against a receiver in the room. Walk the room with a receiver and confirm the level and coverage from the back row and under the balcony, which are the places FM reception fails.
- Charge and check the receivers on a schedule. A dead receiver handed to a visitor is worse than no system, because it looks like the system does not work. Put this on the maintenance calendar with a named person.

Are churches required to provide assistive listening?
